If you've come here expecting to see my website, you'll find yourself disappointed. For that I apologize but this website has moved to geminispace. I'm no longer maintaining a traditional web presence and encourage you to checkout the gemini protocol and my gemspace capsule.
I prefer the gemini protocol because gemini sites are all about the content, not how my site looks. When browsing geminispace there is no advertising, no scripts that are ran without my permission, no bandwidth hogging videos or pictures that load from some other source or location outside of the actual site, and no tracking cookies.
The toxicity and rhetoric of social media and also led me to close any social media accounts I once had as they do not foster any sense of community nor does it foster any meaningful, informative, engaging conversation space without being manipulated by the algorithms of social media. It also used to be that having a website allowed for fostering a sense of community with people, this no longer holds true it seems in today's modern web.
To access gemini capsules which is the name given to sites using the gemini protocol, you need to have a browser that is capable of accessing the protocol. My gemini uri is listed below.
gemini://caseyrichins.onlineOf the browsers available I've tried Amfora and Lagrange, and I lean more towards terminal based applications such as Amfora, but lagrange does have one feature that I like and that is the ability to view certificate information and even copy the fingerprint of the certificate in question. If the capsule using a CA signed certificate this is viewable and verifiable by matching the fingerprints that the author publishes with the copied fingerprint.
You can find the links to download either browser below, Amfora has pre-compiled binaries available whereas if you use non-redhat linux distro you'll need to compile Lagrange from source.
On Ubuntu you can download the zip file under the releases section on the Amfora Github page and download the binary version needed ending in linux_64-bit. Than once downloaded, extract the binary from the zip, rename the extracted file to 'amfora' and move it to '~/.local/bin'. You should then be able to open Amfora from your terminal.
For Lagrange you'll need to execute some commands to compile the source code on Ubuntu, some extra packages not present in the desktop version of Ubuntu will also be required. Once the source is compiled you'll have a binary that you can move the binary to your '~/.local/bin' directory.
For Windows users, you can download a Lagrange binary from the release page here. Langrange Release Downloads
If you're interested in setup detals for many of my other configurations that don't make it to Gemini you can use lynx, which is included with many linux distros. You may also use Lagrange as above or download and install VF-1 browser.I hope to see you there and feel free to reach out via email if you would like to share with me your gopher hole.
